How to Choose AI Search Visibility Software
Buyers now ask assistants instead of scanning results pages. This category exists to tell you what those assistants say about you, and to fix the reasons they get it wrong.
Traditional rank tracking answers a question that is becoming less complete: where does this page sit for this keyword. It cannot tell you whether an assistant recommended you in a synthesized answer that never showed a link at all.
AI search visibility software, sometimes called generative engine optimization or answer engine optimization tooling, is built for that gap. The category is young, the claims are broad, and the difference between products is mostly in coverage and honesty about what can be measured. Here is how to evaluate one.
What to evaluate
The criteria that actually separate these tools
Coverage across engines that matter to your buyers
Answer engines do not agree with each other. A tool that checks one engine tells you very little, because the model your buyers use may describe you completely differently. Look for coverage across the major assistants rather than depth on a single one.
Measurement beyond a mention count
Being named is the weakest signal. What matters is whether the description was accurate, whether the sentiment was favourable, and whether you were the recommendation or an item in a longer list. A tool that only reports presence will show a healthy number while buyers are being told something wrong about you.
Accuracy alerting
The highest value alert is a factual error: a model claiming you lack a capability you have, or repeating a price you retired. These cost deals silently, because a buyer never argues with an assistant. Ask whether the product flags incorrect claims or only tracks whether you appeared.
A path from measurement to fix
Monitoring alone produces a report nobody acts on. The useful question is whether the tool connects a visibility gap to a specific change on your site, such as missing structured data, an unclear claim, or a page an engine cannot retrieve.
Honest scope on automated changes
Some products apply fixes for you. That is genuinely useful and it deserves scrutiny. Ask what it changes, whether you approve changes before they go live, and whether every change can be reversed.
Tracking over time, not a one-off scan
A single snapshot is a curiosity. Models update and competitors publish, so visibility moves. You want a cadence and a trend line, so you can tell whether a change you made actually moved the answer.

What should give you pause
None of these are disqualifying on their own. Each one is a question worth asking before you sign anything.
