Engineering a Patient Portal for a Major Medical Technology Brand
Over a three-year engagement, Dude Lemon was the engineering team behind a US patient portal for a major medical technology brand: built from the ground up, serving more than two million active users a month at launch, and continuously engineered to specifications set by program leadership at the brand's North America headquarters.

Overview
A patient portal that had to work the first time, every time
A nationwide patient portal had to verify and serve millions of patients with no room for error. Every user needed to be matched to the right device and records, sensitive medical and personal data had to move under strict security standards, and the platform had to stay dependable as the program scaled.
Dude Lemon owned the build end to end. We architected the platform from the ground up, designed the identity-matching registration, engineered secure data handling and transfer, and stood up encrypted audit logging, then iterated release after release against program specifications.
The portal launched serving more than two million active users a month and ran as the program’s front door for three years of continuous engineering, with new device flows and capabilities shipped as requirements evolved.
The collaboration
Worked with the brand's engineering organization
We worked directly with program leadership at the brand's North America headquarters, building from their specifications, estimating and scoping each update, and shipping release after release across three years.
The cadence ran from first architecture through continuous evolution: new device flows, registration changes, and platform updates engineered as the program grew.
We also served as the liaison between the brand's North America team and its Innovation Lab, ensuring the lab had the data access and testing information it needed for each of its releases.
What we owned
From first commit to every release
Security & data
Built for the data that matters most
Patient data carries the highest stakes in software. We engineered the portal so that identity is verified before access, data moves encrypted, medical and personal records stay separated, and every action can be audited, on a healthcare enterprise's terms.
Engagement & delivery
Three years, one engineering team
Foundation
Architecture and ground-up build: the platform core, the registration flow, and the identity-matching engine behind it.
Launch & scale
Shipped to production as the program’s patient portal, serving more than two million active users a month at launch.
Continuous engineering
Three years of releases: new device flows, registration changes, secure data delivery to the Innovation Lab, and support for each public release.
